At the moment, there aren’t any laboratory tests that can be used to diagnose fibromyalgia. It might take quite a few doctor’s appointments before you receive an official diagnosis. This is because the main symptoms of fibromyalgia are very similar to many other conditions. So your doctor will need to rule these conditions out before confirming that you have fibromyalgia. Your doctor will ask you to confirm a history of widespread pain that has lasted more than three months. And we’ll ask you to point out the areas throughout your body, in which you’ve had the pain. The past week during a physical exam, a positive finding would be widespread tenderness in multiple soft tissue sites or tender point locations after this medical history and exam. And your doctor might request some x-rays and basic blood work. Again, this is to rule out other common conditions.
