Vertigo – Labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis is a vertigo condition that is characterized by a severe onset of vertigo, of spinning vertigo that can last hours and sometimes even days for patients. It is debilitating and incapacitating for them because of its severity. Most patients will say that they ended up going to the ER because it was so debilitating for them. Then over the course of next several days, to even a few weeks, they just gradually improve their symptoms, get better, and the vertigo goes away. They’re often left with this imbalance, but that again tends to improve over time. The hallmark characteristic of labyrinthitis though, is that after the vertigo resolves a patient is left with hearing loss in one or both ears.
