Transcript

The diagnosis of ulcerative colitis always starts with a very detailed medical history, including symptoms, family history, as well as a physical exam. This is done by your physician who will also often order specific blood tests and often stool tests to move towards the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis. Finally, there is an discogenic evaluation with a colonoscopy, which often confirms the diagnosis and suspected cases. Colonoscopy is used with patients who have symptoms of diarrhea, abdominal pain, anemia. And so it is a very commonly used tool to actually diagnose ulcerative colitis.
