So why would your oncologist offer you chemotherapy? It’s because we know for patients who have a high risk of cancer coming back, chemotherapy reduces that risk. So we will offer you treatment for a duration of time, not indefinitely, but a short duration of time, to reduce the risk of your cancer coming back. So even though your cancer has been removed and we don’t see any evidence that it’s there, in high risk patients, there’s something known as micrometastatic disease or small pieces of cancer or tumor that are left behind. And that’s where the risk of recurrence comes from. Chemotherapy helps us remove that or get rid of that small floating colon cancer that’s left to prevent you from developing colon cancer in the future.
