Twisting your ankle in some manner is generally the cause of a sprained ankle. This can happen because of a fall, if you landed in a funny way after jumping, being on a surface that’s not even, and even someone else stepping on you can cause your ankle to sprain. Participating in sports that require rolling and twisting of the foot, such as basketball, football, soccer, and tennis may also cause a sprained ankle. Strengthening your ankle is the best form of prevention. Otherwise, being careful and aware of your surroundings can help prevent the kind of twisting that can cause sprains. And don’t engage in sports or activities that you aren’t properly conditioned for.
