Prostate Cancer – Biopsy

share

Transcript

So what tests do I need to do later? Well, if the PSA is abnormal and after other considerations such as how high the PSA is, your age, and your general health, many men would proceed to what’s called a prostate biopsy. Biopsy means we extract tissue from the prostate so that we can examine it under the microscope and see if there are cancer cells present. Other tests such as an MRI can be used to indicate if high risk lesions are available. Some do the MRI prior to the biopsy, others like myself only use the MRI if a patient has already had a biopsy that failed to detect cancer, and we were just following up because their PSA is so elevated.
