Tinea Versicolor – Mechanism

Although a very common condition, tinea versicolor does have a genetic component. In other words, you need to have a particular genetic makeup in order to get tinea versicolor. Even if you have the genetic makeup, you may not get the rash, but it can be triggered by hot, humid, sweaty climates. If you have oily skin or a weakened immune system, it can increase your chances of getting it as well. You can get tinea versicolor seasonally such as in the late spring or early summer. You can also get it in certain locations, such as every time you travel to a tropical climate, such as Hawaii.
