It’s really hard to come up with the exact etiologies and contributing factors for cardiomyopathy, cause a lot of it is not very well understood. But certain things increase the risk of having cardiomyopathy, and they include: Family history of cardiomyopathy, family history of sudden death, inflammatory conditions, inflammation of the heart muscle, certain autoimmune conditions, having drug or alcohol use, and having ischemic heart disease, increase the likelihood of developing cardiomyopathy. If you have certain conditions, you’re higher risk for developing cardiomyopathy. These conditions include: Diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disease, infiltrative conditions such as sarcoidosis, amyloidosis, or hemochromatosis. And these increase your likelihood of developing cardiomyopathy.
