Transcript

Well, the main type of medicines used for transplant patients are immunosuppressive agents. And these would have to be monitored closely so that the patient doesn’t get too much or too little. Should they get too little, rejection’s a risk. Should they get too much, infection becomes a greater risk. Immunosuppressive medications have potential side effects. One such side effect is obviously getting infections. So therefore patients may require antibiotics, antifungals, other medications. Patients may have a bump in their sugars because of use of steroids for some patients, and in these patients, diabetes will have to be monitored and treated appropriately. Certain immunosuppressive agents can lead to a rise in blood pressure. So blood pressure lowering medications may become necessary.
