Hi, I’m Dr. Michael Bergstein. I just want to tell you a little bit about myself and my practice. I went to medical school at Mount Sinai School of Medicine for four years, and then subsequently did a ear, nose and throat, that is a head and neck, residency and internship. During the course of those five years after medical school, we learned all aspects of head and neck. After that, I decided I wanted to specialize in facial, plastic and reconstructive surgery, and I went to the University of California in San Francisco. There we did all sorts of trauma and cosmetics. What I love about this is that we’re able to enhance the nose and the patient’s functionally, but also cosmetically. So patients will often come to my office, not only to breathe better, but to look better as well. I’ve been doing this now for 30 years. We’ve had a great success and many satisfied patients. What I love about this is that a patient comes in with a defined problem, for instance, that they can’t breathe, or they’re unhappy with their nasal appearance. We then fix it, we repair it, and then there’s an immediate improvement in terms of their breathing and also their cosmetics. It’s been extremely rewarding and satisfying over the years, seeing how patients have improved, and I’m grateful them come to me, and they’re grateful for the improvement that they’ve seen. It’s important for the patient, I believe, to see that their doctor takes care of themselves, because we’re asking you to take care of yourself. So in terms of improving your quality of life, I want to improve my quality of life. And I do that by doing what’s called triathlons. I participate in three Ironman and multiple other triathlons over the year. And so by staying in shape, I feel that I’m able to deliver a better level of care and also to be an excellent role model for my patients. I am board certified in ear, nose and throat and head and neck surgery. I am also board certified in facial, plastic and reconstructive surgery. I am the surgical director of the Phelps Memorial Hospital sleep laboratory for the past 15 years, and I’ve been an assistant clinical professor of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. At the Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai, we teach residents, we operate with residents so that they can become active members of the ear, nose and throat community. And this has been extremely rewarding to pass on my knowledge in terms of teaching others, what I’ve learned and what my professors have taught me over the years.
