Well, usually a cardiologist will have to be involved rather soon in the treatment of cardiogenic shock, because they’ll not only help in the treatment, but they’d have to also be involved in the diagnosis most often. Once diagnosed with cardiogenic shock, medications are required to try to support the heart. Pressers, as we call them, dopamine, dobutamine and milirinone, are drugs that help the contractility of the heart and help the heart pump better during cardiogenic shock.
