Well, if you have a DVT, one complication is obviously breaking up of the clot and causing what we call a pulmonary embolism, which is the clot breaking off and going and damaging the lungs. As I mentioned before, a patient with a DVT who has PE can have long term complication, what we call pulmonary hypertension, and that can have its own sequelae in terms of difficulty with breathing and possible need for oxygen supplementation, et cetera. In some patients that have had DVT, there may be complication of what we call postphlebitic syndrome, where there’s inflammation as a result of the swelling and the stasis of the fluid in the lower extremities, causing long term, what we call dermatitis or inflammation of the skin of the lower extremity.
