Well, as mentioned, it’s basically a clot in the veins of the pelvis and thighs that can also be in the upper extremities. The clot can often break off and go to the lungs and cause what we call a pulmonary embolism, which leads to damage to the lung and can lead to infarction of the lung. The DVT can sometimes break off and go through a connection between the right and left heart called a PFO and lead to what we call a paradoxical stroke, because in normal people, the clot cannot go from the right side from the venous system to the brain. But if you have such a connection, the clot could end up causing a stroke called a paradoxical embolism,
