It all started with a nudge from a friend. “I wish you would write a blog on the stuff you get yourself into,” he said. “I’d read it.”
Over the last couple of years, I’ve been nearly obsessed with the idea of achieving passive income through as many streams as possible. Early on, I didn’t even realize passive income was truly possible–until I started actively looking for ways it could be done.
I thought everyone was in the same boat – that any reward is directly proportional to the amount of work you put in. In other words, effort and time in = income out. After all, that’s how it’s worked for most of my life. Study hard and you’ll receive a good grade. Work a certain number of hours and you’ll get a paycheck.
It wasn’t until I stumbled upon books like Rich Dad, Poor Dad and The 4-Hour Workweek that I realized that it is essential to unlink time & effort from compensation – especially with the direction medicine is taking.
“it is essential to unlink time & effort from compensation…”
We’re already at the limits of how hard we can work, and the reward will only continue to diminish. Some feel that the only solution is to work harder indefinitely. But this means more time spent away from family or friends, so I can’t believe that’s all there is to it.
This is why I’ve dedicated myself to learning about different ways to work smarter, not harder. I’ve begun investing my time and energy into areas that will produce larger future gains.
So, what is the goal of all this?
For me, it’s to ultimately support my family and those in need – not only financially, but with my physical presence as well. See, I’m hungry for that free time. Unfortunately, I feel my career in medicine alone can’t make this happen.
Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love what I do and I feel privileged to be a doctor. I’m simply searching for a better balance, and a hedge for the future.
To that end, this blog will serve as a personal documentation of my journey to find ways to achieve these goals–while ultimately allowing me to spend more time with loved ones.
This will involve taking on new financial ventures and increasing streams of passive income, certainly, but there’s more to it than that. I am also making changes in my life, reassessing the choices I’ve already made, and seeking out the wisdom of those who’ve already achieved similar goals.
If this appeals to you as well, I invite you to join me. Come along for the journey, provide some insight, or, at the very least, enjoy the show.
