Dr. Maxey is originally from Upstate New York. She attended Mercer University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in biomedical engineering and was the captain of Mercer’s NCAA Division I women’s soccer Team. She attended medical school at New York
University School of Medicine and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.
Dr. Maxey completed a transitional year internship at United Health Services- Wilson Hospital, followed by an anesthesiology residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and a critical care
fellowship specializing in cardiac critical care at the University of Cincinnati.
She then returned to Upstate New York and worked in private practice at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York. There, she provided intraoperative cardiac anesthesia for hundreds of patients per year, including high-risk mechanical support cases and minimally invasive cases, as well as critical care for patients in the CVICU.
She also served as the hospital’s first Medical Director for ECMO and Mechanical Circulatory Support, where she developed a cardiogenic shock and ECMO program from the ground up. In 2023, she left St. Joseph’s and founded CNY Medical Services, PLLC.
She now provides consultative services to multiple Upstate New York
hospitals, focusing on cardiovascular program development and optimization. She additionally works at SUNY Upstate Medical University as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Maxey is the Director of the CCU and the newly formed Cardiogenic Shock program and is the CDI Medical Director for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. Her areas of expertise and interest are cardiogenic shock, mechanical circulatory support, including percutaneous ventricular assist devices and ECMO, and complete perioperative care of
cardiothoracic surgical patients. She participates in research primarily focused on quality improvement initiatives.
