Ellie Hirshberg, MD

Dr. Hirshberg is a multi-specialty trained intensivist boarded in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Critical Care medicine, Pediatric critical care medicine and Echocardiography, She just completed additional masters and fellowship training in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Hirshberg wants to continue to focus on the complete care of patients and their families and is dedicated to optimizing the patient- clinician relationship and interaction. She is an innovative problem solver and endorses patient - physician partnerships in all medical encounters. She believes in transparency, effective communication and shared decision making. She beleives patients and families don’t just want to be educated they want to be enriched and escorted through their medical journeys.

As the Director of Center for Humanizing Critical Care at Intermountain Healthcare, She leads a team of clinicians and researchers who are dedicated to improving the quality of life and outcomes for critically ill patients and their families. She has over 16 years of experience as a critical care physician, treating adults and children with complex and life-threatening conditions, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), sepsis, and shock. She is the creator and director of the Post ICU aftercare and recovery clinic which focuses on helping patients and families transition back to wholehearted living by treating persistent medical, psychological and functional problems with a person centered approach.

Dr. Hirshberg is also a cross-disciplinary clinical researcher, Her research focuses on developing and evaluating computer decision support systems, enhancing the healthcare experience for patients and families in the ICU, and investigating the pathophysiology and treatment of ARDS. She has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and received several grants and awards for her contributions.
