Gene LaMonica, MD

Dr. LaMonica received a BS in Biology from the University of California at Riverside. Medical school was completed at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA. He then did a year of General Surgery internship at the University of Colorado Health Science Center, two years of Pathology at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and completed a Family Medicine residency program at Glendale Adventist Hospital in Glendale CA.

Dr. LaMonica served two years as a National Health Service Corp Scholar with Golden Valley Medical Center in Modesto CA. He subsequently took a position as Director of Urgent Care Services for the County of Stanislaus in Modesto. During this time, he was also working with a UC Davis-sponsored family medicine program teaching low-risk Obstetrics.

Dr. LaMonica returned to residency for obstetrics and gynecology and MFM fellowship at the University of New Mexico. He joined the MFM group in Colorado Springs Memorial Hosp, which eventually became the south campus of the University of Colorado. He served as transport director for the last 2 years there. Dr. LaMonica's next adventure was with Sidra Medicine in Doha Qatar where he helped open a new MFM clinic at a regional community hospital in Al Wakra and helped to develop services at the new Sidra Hospital. After 5 years in Doha, he returned to the USA taking a position at a private practice, Pregnancy Specialty Center of Texas, where he has been practicing since late 2019.

While in Doha, he was able to co-author a book chapter on renal disease and pregnancy and help to publish a comparison article on international fetal monitoring guidelines. His current focus is on general maternal-fetal medicine care, ultrasound, and genetics. He is a volunteer faculty member at the University of Houston.
