Dr. Farooq, originally from Pakistan, embarked on a transformative medical journey that began
at King Edward Medical University. He subsequently embraced the opportunities offered in the
United States, driven by a passion for excellence and knowledge expansion. After completing
his medical education, Dr. Farooq undertook a dedicated residency in internal medicine at St.
Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, honing his patient care skills.
His quest for medical advancement led him to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
(UPMC), where he served as a Clinical Instructor in Medicine. During this period, Dr. Farooq
immersed himself in various facets of medical research, including basic scientific, retrospective
clinical studies, and patient enrollment in clinical trials conducted by the Department of Critical
Care Medicine.
Transitioning to the realm of critical care, Dr. Farooq pursued a prestigious fellowship at UPMC.
His dedication and leadership abilities were highlighted by his appointment as Chief Fellow.
Notably, he excelled as the sole Point of Care Ultrasound Fellow in the program, a role that
showcased his commitment to mastering critical care medicine.
Currently, Dr. Farooq serves as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of
Texas, San Antonio, where he specializes in Cardiothoracic and Transplant ICU. Beyond his
clinical pursuits, he is an ardent advocate for education and mentorship, extending his guidance
to fellows, residents, and advanced practice providers. His clinical interests revolve around
applying point of care ultrasound at the patient's bedside, particularly concerning advanced
hemodynamic and mechanical circulatory support for transplant patients.
In his free time, Dr. Farooq finds joy in activities like CrossFit, motorcycle riding, and traveling.
