Dr. Saul Konviser BDS MSc BSc is a general dentist at the Montagu Dental practice, in Marylebone, London. Originally from Cape Town, South Africa, Saul completed his Bachelor’s degree in Physiology & Pharmacology at Bristol, University of the West of England with a year working in Quality Assurance at pharmaceutical company, Novopharm (a then subsidiary of Teva Pharmaceuticals), in Toronto, Canada. He then went on to study for a Masters in International Health Policy at the London School of Economics followed by a year in Cape Town, South Africa working with an HIV & AIDS organisation (Treatment Action Campaign) supporting the development of national HIV/AIDS policies, education materials and advocacy work. He then continued in South Africa working with media company Community Health Media Trust, helping to develop content, interviews and programme editing on an HIV/AIDS education TV series.
Saul then returned to the UK to spend a further 4 years working in corporate, technology and healthcare Public Relations at GolinHarris, working on clients such as Oracle, Orange and EMC, followed by an in-house PR role at the Weizmann Institute of Science UK office. While continuing with this PR role part-time, he then received his Bachelors of Dental Surgery from King’s College London from which he went on to do his training within the NHS before moving into fully private practice.
He has developed a special interest in the field of Sports Dentistry looking at the impact of oral health on sporting performance and continues his application of this with research looking at the prevalence of dental disease in professional footballers in England.
Saul is a Director of the charity, Dental Wellness Trust, where he has been responsible for establishing supervised toothbrushing and oral health education programmes across the South East of England, with over 15,000 children now taking part daily. He also helps oversee the roll-out of similar programmes in South Africa and Kenya with over 20,000 children combined participating. He lectures regularly on child dental health, dental public health as well as regularly providing commentary to media outlets on national dental health issues.
Away from dentistry, Saul spends most of his time with his wife and 2 daughters, and if time allows, he trains for the occasional triathlon, marathon and mountaineering challenge.
