INTERVIEW WITH NISH PATEL, MD

What guided your decision to go into medicine and specifically, your chosen field? 

Healthcare is for people who want to help and extend their arms of clinical acumen to embrace their patient’s problems. Right from my childhood, I have been around kith and kin who were sick, ailing and needed medical attention. Caring for them and being their pillar of support motivated and fueled my dreams to become a world class helping professional who not only fixes hearts but heals their lives. The eyes filling with gratitude and hands giving me blessings – be it the patients or their families – makes my life a little more fulfilling and immensely rewarding.

What can a patient expect when they have you as a doctor?

Trust is the core of any doctor-patient relationship. My patients will always find me as their trusted confidant when they are seeking out my medical expertise and clinical knowledge. I will be a part of their healthcare tribe and will give them custom tailored heart health plans. I think God has given us at least 100 years to live. My goal is to make my patient achieve that number while maintaining quality of life.

What is your favorite activity outside of work?

My work is my favorite activity. Nevertheless, I enjoy small things in life like tapping my feet and jiving to beats. If not working, you can find me syncing my steps and dancing my heart out. Be it ball room, American Tango, Salsa or Swing – I am willing to try and learn all of them. I keep my heart healthy with dancing and rushing my adrenaline by striving to be a fitness enthusiast.

You recently joined the Doctorpedia team as a Founding Medical Partner. What about Doctorpedia resonates with your personal and professional mission?

PASSION + MISSION + VOCATION + PROFESSION = IKIGAI

IKIGAI is a Japanese concept referring to something that gives a person/team a sense of purpose.

I believe Doctorpedia is a unique amalgamation of this concept. It’s an adept collaborative force effectively delivering your health in your own hands. Joining this wonderful Doctorpedia family will propel my dreams and mission to be “doctor of the patient, by the patient, for the patient.”

What problems do patients face that Doctorpedia can help solve?

Doctorpedia can become a guiding light to the right source of knowledge. When patients seek out medical advice, they are always skeptical about whether they can trust this advice or not. Doctorpedia provides this platform when our patients can access trustworthy answers to their health concerns. It can also save time, energy, and money.

If you could spend a day with any person in the world (dead or alive) – who would you choose?

I would love to meet my spiritual guru Pramukhswami who lived by the motto of “in joy of others lies our own”. His divine kindness, compassion and selfless service touched many individuals and uplifted them.
