Types Of Ovarian Cancer
Transcript
Let’s get a bit deeper into the definition of ovarian cancer. There are in fact several cell types of cancers that can develop in the ovaries. Now we’re going to get a little bit technical here for a moment.
One type of ovarian cancer is epithelial ovarian cancer. Now this is the big, bad, ugly one that everyone usually talks about and fears. Another is stromal ovarian cancer. That tends to be a bit slow in growing. Third is germ cell ovarian cancer. And that, for the most part, can be cured. There are several others like sarcomas, carcinosarcomas, and borderline tumors. We will dive deep into each one of these in our future videos.
Another key point to note is that there are two other cancer types that are bundled up with ovarian cancer. One is called the fallopian tube cancer, and the other is primary peritoneal cancer. The reason for this is because embryologically, they all originate from the same cell, meaning when we were even smaller than a little peanut, the original cells where these parts of the body developed from are the same.
