Vulvar cancers can cause several symptoms. However, some of these symptoms can also be caused or associated with other conditions. In the early stages, even for several years, vulvar cancer may not cause any noticeable symptoms at all. Therefore it is important for a woman to pay attention to her body and know what is normal and what is not. Such symptoms may include itching or burning in the vulva, especially if that is persistent and does not go away, bleeding that is not related to menstruation, changes in the color of the skin of the labia, changes in the surface of the skin of the labia, such as a rash, wart or a sore or thickening of the skin, a lump or a tender spot on the vulva, pelvic pain, especially during urination or while having sex. I recommend seeing a doctor about any symptoms that are new and not typical. Many times these lesions can only be diagnosed by biopsies.
