Uterine cancer is a broad term for cancers that originate from the uterus. You might hear the terms endometrial cancer, which is the cancer that originates in the lining of the uterus, and uterine sarcomas, which are the cancers that originate in the muscle wall of the uterus. There are several more subcategories of each of these types of uterine cancers, but we’ll get into those in future videos. About 66,000 new cases of cancer of the body of the uterus will be diagnosed in 2021. 10% of uterine cancers are sarcomas. About 13,000 women will die from cancers of the uterine body in 2021. The uterus plays an important role in women’s reproductive health years. This is where a fertilized egg can implant, and this is where the baby develops. During a woman’s menstrual cycle or period, the uterus sheds its lining in the form of bleeding.
