Robert Blank is a Senior Research Officer at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. Prior to joining Garvan in 2019, he was Professor of Medicine, Cell Biology, and Physiology and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has held multiple US government grants in the US and has co-authored over 100 publications. He has particular expertise in integrative bone physiology, mouse bone phenotyping and mouse genetics. Current work done in collaboration with Jacqueline Center focuses on fracture epidemiology, addressing the interaction of multimorbidity with fracture, variation in post-fracture outcomes, and development of improved fracture risk assessment tools.
He is an associate editor of Bone and the Journal of the Endocrine Society, an academic editor of PLoS One, an editorial board member of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research, Osteoporosis International, Translational Research, Endocrinology, and Clinical Reviews in Bone and Mineral Metabolism. He is a past president of the International Society for Clinical Densitometry, a member of the International Osteoporosis Foundation’s Council of Scientific Advisors, a board member of the International Federation of Musculoskeletal Research Societies, a member of the coalition for secondary fracture prevention working group, and a fellow of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research. He served as chair of the FASEB Science Research Conferences advisory board for 10 years. He has served on multiple grant review panels in the USA and internationally.
