Some people with ALS also present with some cognitive dysfunction. The most common type of cognitive dysfunction is that of executive function. The ability to plan, to pay attention to things, to follow through with directions. And in less common cases, people with ALS can also develop a frontotemporal type dementia where they might have behavior changes, difficulty speaking, or difficulty with language.
