The next question we ask, are there lymph nodes involved? Lymph nodes are one of the areas that colon cancers like to spread first. Those will be removed usually at the time of surgery or in some cases sampled prior to surgery that will give you your “N,” or lymph node stage, and determine the number of lymph nodes involved.
