Physician assistants and nurse practitioners are highly trained medical professionals who are frequently part of the healthcare team in the ER. Depending on the ER and the specific case and the specific patient’s needs, someone might be cared for by a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner or a doctor. If they aren’t sure and would like to know, it is always okay for patients to ask us who we are, our role in their care and our area of specialization.
