Endoscopic Spine Surgery – Procedure

Transcript

Endoscopic spine surgery is a same day outpatient procedure. This means the patient can go home the same day. The procedure is often performed with either local anesthesia, where the patient is just sedated, or the patient is placed under general anesthesia. For either type of anesthesia, there is no hospital stay necessary. During the surgery, the surgeon may use a single stitch to close the wound at the end or simply just skin glue. The duration of the surgery is largely dependent on the indication for the operation. A disc herniation procedure might take approximately an hour. A surgery used to treat spinal stenosis may take one to two hours.
