Once the catheter is in place, an assistant is gonna set up an epidural pump. That epidural pump is gonna feed the catheter continuously, providing pain relief for as long as needed. Once the infusion of medication is stopped, you can expect to regain sensation of the numbed area in about two to four hours, depending on the medication that was given.
