Unfortunately, there are certain foods that should be avoided due to an increased risk of infection. Foods such as raw fish or shellfish should not be eaten. Sushi and uncooked oysters are off limits. Do not eat raw nuts, or use foods, condiments or drinks that are past their expiration date. Unless you live in a house that requires bulk purchases, do not buy foods from bulk bins. When eating out, do not eat at buffets, salad bars, or self-service restaurants. Any foods that show signs of mold, including moldy cheese such as blue cheese, is not acceptable. Any perishable foods that have been at room temperature for longer than two hours should not be eaten. Any available leftovers for more than three days ago should go in the trash. Do not leave meat, chicken, turkey, or fish sitting out to thaw. Instead, thaw them in the refrigerator or the microwave. Meats should not have any pink inside and eggs should be hard, not runny.
