March 7, 2022

Transcript

A lot of patients that get severe heart failure where they need a transplant have either frequent heart attacks or multiple heart attacks or extensive damage to the heart from heart attacks. Some will have viral infections that lead to damage to the muscle of the heart. Others will have valvular heart disease or conditions where their heart weakens, and is unable to meet their metabolic demands. In children, the most common reason for heart failure is congenital heart defects. It’s important to point out that patients can have more than one organ transplant at the time of their heart transplant.
