Heart Transplant: Support Groups

Transcript

Well, the process of being sick enough, needing a transplant, undergoing a transplant, and then remaining on a regimen of immunosuppressive agents is a stressful process. Patients often need help and support beyond their family. There are social support groups, such as the Mended Heart Program where patients can reach out and get other people that have gone through the same process. And what I like about the Mended Heart Program itself is that even pre-transplant, the previous transplant recipients come in and show support and kind of teach the patient how they went through it and where they are in the process, which helps the patients feel like they can too complete the process.
