Is this infection dangerous? The answer is yes and no. While this virus rarely causes acute liver failure, meaning that your liver is acutely shut down and not functioning, like it’s supposed to. Chronic infection can lead to chronic inflammation in your liver. And as the damages to your liver build up over time, it can cause significant scarring and what we call cirrhosis of the liver.
