It takes a team of individuals to find a healthy surrogate to carry your embryo for you for a healthy pregnancy.
It’s really important that we follow the American Society of Reproductive Medicine guidelines in finding a healthy gestational carrier or surrogate for your family building goals. Typically, we’re trying to find someone who’s under 35, who has a body mass index under 28, normal blood pressure, full term babies, no premature pregnancies, no postpartum depression, that has a healthy uterine environment with a normal saline sonogram or hysterosalpingogram. It’s important that the individual is taking vitamins, avoiding toxins, avoiding retinol products, has a normal vitamin D level, and a normal thyroid level. We check the vagina. If they have any vaginal discharge for ureaplasma mycoplasma, we check them and their partner for a tox screen for any toxins. And we make sure they’re up to date with their chickenpox vaccine, rubella vaccine, and measles. We discuss the pros and cons of the COVID vaccine.
It’s up to them individually and your doctor to discuss that in detail. And it’s important that the surrogate has a strong family support for their journey as well.
