Hello. My name is Dr. Irlna Tantchou. I am a colorectal surgeon of Northwest Arkansas. I am board certified both in general surgery and colorectal surgery. What I love the most about colorectal surgery is the wide breadth of patients that I get to take care of on a daily basis. I get to take care of the 67 year old female who has fecal incontinence and is embarrassed to talk about it. And I get to give her her life back. I get to take care of the 20 year old male who just got diagnosed with Crohn’s disease and is scared because this is an autoimmune lifelong disease that he’s going to have to deal with. I get to take care of the 25 year old who just gave birth and find herself to have an anal fissure. And she has no idea how to take care of that and take care of her newborn.
I get to take care of the 40 year old male who has constipation and just has symptoms from his internal hemorrhoids, or I get to take care of colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is one of the passions that I have in my work. I enjoy the fact that this is one of the few cancers that can be cured surgically if found early. So I get a chance to cure cancer, which is pretty neat in itself. I also enjoy talking, discussing with my patient about preventative care by performing colonoscopies and screening for colorectal cancer. What I like to do in my spare time is spending time with my family. I also enjoy watching television. I’m sort of a movie buff. And last but not least, I enjoy shopping. And I look forward to discuss all things gut health related.
