Transcript

A laminotomy s a procedure where a surgeon removes a part of the lamina, or roof of the spine, to help remove pressure on a nerve. Unlike a laminectomy or a hemilaminectomy, where either the entire lamina or half of the lamina is removed, with a laminotomy, only a small amount of bone is removed. A laminotomy is much less invasive than a laminectomy. And the goal of the surgery is to reduce pressure on a single nerve. This procedure is sometimes combined with a discectomy or a facetectomy to remove pressure on a nerve.
