Lung Disease – Obstructive Lung Disease Types

So in pulmonary medicine, there’s couple broad categories of diseases. There’s restrictive lung diseases, obstructive lung diseases and pulmonary vascular diseases, which means diseases of the blood vessels and the lungs. By far and away, the most common lung diseases that we see on a regular basis is obstructive lung diseases, including asthma, COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and bronchiectasis. These are all more obstructive lung diseases, diseases of the airways of the lungs. Again, this is opposed to other broad categories of pulmonary diseases, including interstitial lung diseases, which is more of a disease of the actual tissues of the lungs, and pulmonary vascular diseases, a disease of the blood vessels.
