Treatment. Treatment of thin or early evolving melanoma is simple. Is the removal of the entire lesion with a border of normal skin around and below the lesion. Most often this procedure is curative. Note that this specimen is thoroughly examined by the pathologist and nothing further beyond regular monitoring and sun protection is required. Treatment for advanced melanoma is presently revolutionary, utilizing immunotherapy, targeted therapy, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and further surgical removal. This is a multi-disciplinary approach and has led to the increasing survival times of even the most advanced tumors.
