Other things that can cause obstruction in your nose are physical growths or polyps or tumors, and these are less common, but need to be looked at. And that’s where symptoms of unilateral obstruction, symptoms of difficulty breathing on only one side of the nose that’s persistent and ongoing, really needs to be addressed and evaluated carefully. Because any growth that’s on one side of the nose is more significant, needs to be biopsied, removed, and determined what exactly is causing that growth. Sometimes it’s not something that’s benign as an allergic polyp. It could be something more significant. For children, adenoid tissue lives in the back of the nose, and that is typically enlarged, and that can also cause difficulty breathing.
