Complex regional pain syndrome. Often the initials are used: CRPS. And often the old name reflex sympathetic dystrophy or RSD is, is used. And this is a classic example of a neuropathic pain condition. Pain coming from the malfunction of the nervous system. It’ll typically happen after an injury. It could be a major injury with fractures. It could be a minor injury like a sprained ankle. And for some reason something will set off the nervous system. And even though the hardware, the nerves look fine, the bones look fine, muscles, ligaments, everything looks fine, the software in the nervous system is malfunctioning. And we have abnormal signaling of pain, which can be a very difficult and sometimes very chronic problem.
