A chest x-ray is what you’d expect to have in order to diagnose pneumonia. It’s the gold standard for diagnosing pneumonia. You’d see infiltrates within the lung fields to show that there is actually something going on, some kind of inflammatory response going on within the lung. You can also expect some generalized lab tests like a blood count, kidney tests, liver tests, and some specialized lab test if the doctor’s particularly suspicious. For instance, coccidiomycosis pneumonia or Coxy pneumonia. You can draw a lab test for antibodies for this type of infection.
