Poison Ivy – When to see a Doctor

Transcript

A doctor should be consulted when the rash progresses or the individual is very uncomfortable. Most poison ivy rashes that are very symptomatic are treated with oral and topical steroids for symptomatic relief. Sometimes the course of steroid tapers is approximately five to seven days in duration. Other reasons to call your doctor or consult your dermatologist include severe blistering, swelling, discomfort, and itching. Involvement of sensitive areas, such as the eyes, lips, throat, or genitals, and the presence of a fever requires medical attention.
