We do not know, in fact, whether preterm birth can be avoided. Sometimes it just happens spontaneously without an unknown cause or reason. Sometimes it may be needed to happen because of risks in the baby or the mother that causes the OBGYN to determine that it’s better to be delivered earlier, as opposed to waiting full term. By quitting smoking or drug use can really help relieve or being at risk of preterm labor, which can be lifesaving. Consulting your OBGYN or your healthcare provider is really important to determine what you can do to prevent preterm labor.
