Medications are a common cause of priapism as well as drug use. Cocaine is a prominent example of a recreational drug that can cause priapism. Certain prescription drugs are well known to potentially cause Priapism as well, including antidepressant medication, anti-psychotic medication and other drugs for mental health. Certain blood thinners have been known to cause priapism as well.
